    By employing our models in a pathline-based cardiovascular model building pipeline we substantially reduce the manual segmentation effort required to build accurate cardiovascular models, and reduce the overall time required to perform patient-specific cardiovascular simulations. While our method is applied here for cardiovascular model building it is generally applicable to segmentation of tree-like and tubular structures from image data.

    Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can effectively control the pain and inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but its usage is limited due to severe adverse effects. For this reason, making more specific formulations of this drug can be considered. The aim of the present study was designing a novel nano-sized indomethacin delivery system.

    Indomethacin-loaded dextran stearate polymeric micelles were prepared by dialysis method. Particle size and zeta potential of micelles were measured by a zeta sizer instrument. Drug release from micelles was investigated in phosphate buffer medium pH 7.4 and then the best formulation regarding physical properties and drug release was selected for animal studies. Arthritis was induced by complete Freund’s adjuvant injection in rats. Then, the animals were randomly assigned into the model, the indomethacin solution and the polymeric micelles groups. The clinical effects of polymeric micelle formulation were assessed by measuringinflammation in arthritis in rat.

    Our findings demonstrated that indomethacin-loaded dextran stearate polymeric micelles can provide more effective therapeutic effects in control of inflammation in arthritis in rat.We report for the first time that incorporation of a thermally conductive excipient (TCE) modifies the thermal conductivity of the ternary drug-polymer-TCE compositions such that high-energy mixing can occur for prolonged periods at a selected steady-state temperature during the KinetiSol process. In this study, candurin, a TCE, is incorporated within a composition that is processed by high-energy mixing from the KinetiSol process to increase the thermal conductivity of the ternary composition. The improved thermal conductivity promotes heat transfer and enables the high-energy mixing applied during the KinetiSol process to be continued for prolonged time intervals at a selected steady-state temperature, instead of undergoing a continued increase in temperature when the TCE is not present in the composition. The addition of candurin does not impact the molecular structure and mixing of the drug and polymer in ASDs from solid-state NMR characterizations. Compositions with candurin achieved a steady-state processing temperature with + 5°C of the target temperature, and these compositions demonstrated the ability to mix for prolonged time periods while maintaining within this steady-state temperature range, thus enabling the formation of an ASD at a temperature that the drug does not chemically degrade. This study demonstrated that inclusion of the TCE modified the composition’s thermal conductivity to efficiently dissipate heat to achieve a selected steady-state temperature during the KinetiSol process, thus providing prolonged mixing times at a lower temperature for dissolving the drug into the polymer to achieve an ASD without sacrificing product performance.The aim of the present study is to apply support vector machines (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) as sex classifiers and to generate useful classification models for sex estimation based on cranial measurements. Besides, the performance of the generated sub-symbolic machine learning models is compared with models developed through logistic regression (LR). The study was carried out on computed tomography images of 393 Bulgarian adults (169 males and 224 females). The three-dimensional coordinates of 47 landmarks were acquired and used for calculation of the cranial measurements. A total of 64 measurements (linear distances, angles, triangle areas and heights) and 22 indices were calculated. Two datasets were assembled including the linear measurements only and all measurements and index, respectively. find more An additional third dataset comprising all possible interlandmark distances between the landmarks was constructed. Two machine learning algorithms-SVM and ANN and a traditional statistical analysis LR-were applied to generate models for sex estimation. In addition, two advanced attribute selection techniques (Weka BestFirst and Weka GeneticSearch) were used. The classification accuracy of the models was evaluated by means of 10 × 10-fold cross-validation procedure. All three methods achieved accuracy results higher than 95%. The best accuracy (96.1 ± 0.5%) was obtained by SVM and it was statistically significantly higher than the best results achieved by ANN and LR. SVM and ANN reached higher accuracy by training on the full datasets than the selection datasets, except for the sample described by the interlandmark distances, where the reduction of attributes by the GeneticSearch algorithm improved the accuracy.One of the scopes of practice of forensic anthropologists is the estimation of sex from skeletal remains. As a result, population-specific discriminant function equations have been developed from measurements of various bones of the human skeletons. Steyn, Patriquin (Forensic Sci Int 191 (1-3)113, 2009) noted that the lack of skeletal collections and data from most parts of the world has made this process impractical. Previous attempts to develop global discriminant function equations from measurements of the pelvis showed that population-specific equations are not necessary as equations derived from other populations yielded high sex estimation scores when applied to a different population. However, information on the suitability and applicability of generalised equations in sex estimation using long bones is still scarce. It is, therefore, the aim of this study to assess the accuracies of population-specific discriminant function equations derived from measurements of long bones of the upper limb of South African population groups.
