To evaluate the effect of a ketogenic diet (KD) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and liver dysfunction who were obese.
Women with PCOS and liver dysfunction who were obese were enrolled in this prospective, open-label, parallel-group, controlled pilot trial, and randomly received KD (KD group) or conventional pharmacological treatment (Essentiale plus Yasmin, control group) in a 11 ratio for 12 weeks. The primary endpoint was the liver function markers. Secondary endpoints included the menstrual cycle, anthropometric characteristics, body composition, hormonal levels, and metabolic biomarkers.
Of the 20 eligible participants enrolled, 18 participants completed the study. The KD group reported a significant reduction in anthropometric characteristics and body composition from baseline to week 12 (all p < 0.05). In addition, there were significant reductions in menstrual cycle, plasma estradiol, and progesterone levels in two groups (all p < 0.05), but no significant between-group difference was observed. KD significantly reduced the liver function markers compared with control group (p < 0.05). The signs of fatty liver disappeared in six out of seven fatty liver participants in KD group after 12 weeks of intervention, while only one of 10 fatty liver participants in control group disappeared.
In addition to improving the menstrual cycle, KD had the additional benefits of reducing blood glucose and body weight, improving liver function, and treating fatty liver compared to traditional pharmacological treatment in women with PCOS and liver dysfunction who were obese.

However, a proper integration of IHRs requires a detailed description and explanation of their essential capabilities, particularly regarding their competencies in replicating and portraying emotive functions such as empathy. Existing humanoid robots can exhibit rudimentary forms of empathy; as these machines slowly become commonplace in healthcare settings, they will be expected to express empathy as a natural function, rather than merely to portray artificial empathy as a replication of human empathy. This article works with a twofold purpose firstly, to consider the impact of artificial empathy in nursing and, secondly, to describe the influence of Affective Developmental Robotics (ADR) in anticipation of the empathic behaviour presented by artificial humanoid robots. The ADR has demonstrated that it can be one means by which humanoid nurse robots can achieve expressions of more relatable artificial empathy. This will be one of the vital models for intelligent humanoid robots currently in nurse robot development for the healthcare industry. A discussion of IHRs demonstrating artificial empathy is critical to nursing practice today, particularly in healthcare settings dense with technology.

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and attenuated total reflectance infrared (ATR-IR) metabolic profiling of the essential oils of Pinus species. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchal cluster analysis (HCA) were applied for discrimination and segregation of Pinus species.
GC-MS revealed the presence of 76 constituents, where monoterpenes represented the major class with the dominance of α-pinene (72%) followed by β-pinene (16%) for P. canariensis. β-Pinene was the dominant component in P. pinea (24%) followed by terpinolene (11%). α-Pinene (17%) and caryophyllene (12%) were the major components in P. halepensis, while, 3-carene (33%) and α-pinene (17%) represented the major constituents of P. roxburghii oil. By applying PCA and HCA on GC-MS and ATR-IR data analysis, ATR-IR displayed much better discrimination for Pinus species. The pine oils showed promising inhibitory effects on Helicobacter pylori. Furthermore, in silico molecular modelling was carried out where the calculated free binding energies of phytochemicals identified ranged from -33.71 to -19.67kcal/mol for urease and -41.18 to -16.57kcal/mol for shikimate kinase. This suggests favourable binding of pine essential oil components to both enzymes, thus explaining their potential inhibitory activity on H. pylori.

The mechanisms underlying the development of cardiovascular disease in OSA are multifactorial and cause a cascade of events. The primary contributing factor is sympathetic overactivity. Heart rate variability (HRV) can be used to evaluate shifts in the autonomic nervous system, during sleep and in response to treatment in patients with OSA. Newer technologies are aimed at improving HRV analysis to accelerate processing time, improve the diagnosis of OSA, and detection of cardiovascular risk. Interventions should be culturally and socially sensitive, avoid stigma, encourage motivation, recognize barriers and reinforce opportunities and be achievable within the family’s time and financial resources.
