Education about PrEP was most comprehensive in the Northeastern US, the area with the highest PrEP to need ratio (4.7). In all regions, transgender patients and heterosexual men and women were least likely to be presented in education as PrEP candidates, and men who have sex with men were the most frequently presented. CONCLUSIONS There are marked differences in education regarding PrEP both between academic programs and regions of the USA.There has been increasing concern about trace element accumulation in finless porpoises over the past decades, while the long-term variation of its concentration has been little known. Since most soft tissues of porpoises in the past were not preserved until now, the bone tissue is the only ideal material available. Here, 27 East Asian finless porpoise bone samples collected from Nantong, the East China Sea during two periods (1984-1992 and 2009) were used to explore the temporal variation of nine typical elements’ concentration (Fe, Mn, Cu, Ni, Hg, Cr, Pb, As, and Cd, dry weight). An upward trend for total trace element accumulation from 329.04 mg/kg in 1984-1992 to 1535.81 mg/kg in 2009 was found; this could have resulted from the increasing industrial development in the Nantong region. The Mn, Fe, and As levels increased significantly while the concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Pb significantly decreased. Generally, our results suggested that most trace elements posed low threats to East Asian finless porpoises’ health during both periods, while elements Mn (2009), Ni (both periods), Fe (2009), and As (2009) posed a potentially higher health risk to porpoises. Thus, the trace element levels warrant concern and continuous monitoring. The purpose of this research was to investigate whether copper (Cu) exposure could induce apoptosis via endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in skeletal muscle of broilers. A total of 240 one-day-old chickens were randomly divided into four groups by free access; the diets are as follows control diet (Cu 11 mg/kg, control group) and high level of Cu diets (Cu 110 mg/kg, group I; Cu 220 mg/kg, group II; Cu 330 mg/kg, group III). The skeletal muscle tissues were collected on day 49 for further examination. The content of Cu, histopathology, and the expression levels of the genes and proteins related to ERS and apoptosis were detected. Results showed that the Cu levels in skeletal muscle were increased in a dose-dependent manner. Meanwhile, the spaces between the muscle fibers were wider with the increase of Cu content, and the myolysis was observed in group III. Besides, the mRNA expression levels of GRP78, GRP94, eIF2α, ATF6, XBP1, CHOP, Caspase-12, and Caspase3 were markedly increased in treated groups compared with control group, and the protein expression levels of GRP78, Caspase3, Active-Caspase3 and JNK were significantly elevated with the increase of dietary Cu. In summary, these findings suggested that Cu could induce apoptosis through ERS in skeletal muscle of broilers.PURPOSE The validity and responsiveness of the EQ-5D-3L in visual conditions has been questioned, inspiring development of a vision ‘bolt-on’ domain (EQ-5D-3L + VIS). Developments in preference-based measures (PBM) also includes the EQ-5D-5L and the ICECAP-O capability wellbeing measure. This study aimed to examine the construct validity and responsiveness of the EQ-5D-3L, EQ-5D-5L, EQ-5D-3L + VIS and ICECAP-O in cataract surgery patients for the first time, to inform choice of PBM for economic evaluation in this population. METHODS The analyses used data from the UK Predict-CAT cataract surgery cohort study. PBMs and the Cat-PROM5 were completed before surgery and 4-8 weeks after. Glucosylceramide Synthase inhibitor Construct validity was assessed using correlations and known-group differences evaluated using regression. Responsiveness was evaluated using effect sizes and analysis of variance to compare change scores between groups, defined by patient-reported and clinical outcomes. RESULTS The sample comprised 1315 patients at baseline. No PBMs were associated with visual acuity and only the ICECAP-O (Spearman’s rs = - 0.35), EQ-5D-3L + VIS (rs = - 0.42) and EQ-5D-5L (Value Set for England rs = - 0.31) correlated at least moderately with the Cat-PROM5. Effect sizes of change were consistently largest for the EQ-5D-3L + VIS (range 0.34-0.41), followed by the ICECAP-O (range 0.20-0.34). Results indicated no improvement in responsiveness using the EQ-5D-5L (range 0.13-0.16) compared to the EQ-5D-3L (range 0.17-0.20). CONCLUSIONS Whilst no PBMs comprehensively demonstrated evidence of construct validity and responsiveness in cataract surgery patients, the ICECAP-O was the most responsive generic PBM to improvements in QOL. Surprisingly the EQ-5D-5L was not more responsive than the EQ-5D-3L in this setting.Ret receptor tyrosine kinase is a proto-oncogene that participates in development of various cancers. Several independent studies have recently identified Ret as a key player in breast cancer. Although Ret overexpression and function have been under investigation, mainly in estrogen receptor positive breast cancer, a more comprehensive analysis of the impact of recurring Ret alterations in breast cancer is needed. This review consolidates the current knowledge of Ret alterations and their potential effects in breast cancer. We discuss and integrate data on Ret changes in different breast cancer subtypes and potential function in progression, as well as the participation of distinct Ret network signaling partners in these processes. We propose that it will be essential to define a shared molecular feature of tumors with alteration in Ret receptor, be this at the genetic level or via overexpression in order to design effective therapies to target the Ret pathway. Here we review experimental evidence from basic research and pre-clinical studies concentrating on Ret alterations as potential biomarkers for recurrence, and we discuss the possibility that targeting the Ret pathway might in the future become a treatment for breast cancer.
