29 ± 4.52 mg/g volatile suspended solids, which was 1.5 times of that in MSW_G. The co-disposal of BA increased the microbial diversity and accelerated bio-clogging due to the high calcium concentration. These findings provide a better understanding of the bio-clogging characteristics, which is helpful to control bio-clogging in co-disposal landfills. The use of plastic waste as resource gains more and more attention. In this context, material recycling is especially focused on packaging plastics. Further waste streams that contain a significant amount of plastics are mixed commercial and municipal solid waste. To assess the potential of plastics for recycling and energy recovery from these material streams large-scale experiments were conducted. The potential of mechanical pre-processing with the aim of generating a 3D-plastics pre-concentrate was assessed. The focus of these investigations was put on the relevance of the screening stage and its influence on down-stream material processing via ballistic separation and sensor-based sorting. Results demonstrate not only that the screening of both waste streams leads to enrichment of plastics in coarse particle size ranges (especially >80 mm) and transfer of contaminants, organics and minerals to fine fractions (especially less then 10 mm), but also that sensor-based sorting performance can be significantly enhanced due to cleaning effects on plastics, induced by the material circulation and the resulting interparticle friction in a drum screen. On the downside, the material rotation in a drum screen leads to tail-formation that can create plant down-time through clogging as well as material losses and impairment of pre-concentrates.In this article we show that it is possible to reduce carrier bags consumption without imposing additional costs on supermarket customers. selleck products To this end, we exploit the fact that people shopping in a certain area are likely to have homogeneous preferences on certain dimensions (e.g., sport teams). We implement a simple treatment in a supermarket in Naples, Italy whenever a customer of the supermarket buys a single-use carrier bag we donate a small sum to an institution that is likely to be perceived negatively by the customers of the supermarket (an “anti-charity”). Vice versa, whenever a customer does not purchase a bag, we donate the same amount to an association that is likely to be perceived positively by the customers of the supermarket (a “charity”). We measure the impact of the treatment with respect to the previous weeks, the corresponding weeks of the previous year and we look at the persistence of the effect. Our results show that this treatment causes a significant reduction in bags consumption without imposing monetary costs on supermarket customers. Moreover, we show that our nudge can easily be used by regulators at virtually no cost by creating multi-city tournaments. We explain how these tournaments could be arranged. This is the first of two narrative reviews on cognitive disorders in epilepsy (companion publication Cognitive disorders in epilepsy II Clinical targets, indications and selection of test instruments). Its focus is on clinical experience, real-world evidence, and clinical recommendations. Cognitive disorders are a common comorbidity in children and adults with epilepsy. These cognitive disturbances may preceed the onset of seizures and are multifactorial including contributions by pre-existing brain damage, seizures, interictal epileptic discharges, and treatments including medications and surgery. Comorbid cognitive impairments can have a negative impact on the quality of life in people with epilepsy. They are under-identified and frequently not treated. Comorbid psychiatric disorders, such as ADHD can also contribute to a worse cognitive performance and can benefit from pharmacotherapy with CNS stimulants. Likewise, mood disorders cause a subjective perception of poor memory and attention, which can be reversed with antidepressants of the SSRI family. This narrative review discusses these issues from a real-world clinical perspective in children and adults with newly diagnosed and chronic epilepsy. The need for further research to understand and treat these disorders is noted.A young female was diagnosed as classic cor triatriatum sinistrum (CTS) at 38 months old incidentally and she received percutaneous catheter-based balloon dilatation twice at 41 and 48 months old. She took regular follow-up by echocardiography biannually with no re-stenosis of the orifice in the membrane between two chambers in the left atrium and she denied any cardiac-related symptoms. Serial cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) by treadmill under Ramped-Bruce protocol was done at her 13, 19, and 23-year old. She could reach maximal effort and complete the three CPETs. No significant change of metabolic equivalent at anaerobic (MET) threshold, peak MET, and pulmonary function were noted in the serial CPETs and all of them were within normal limits comparing to the reference values of Chinese specific to her age. Our case report demonstrated that the concept of percutaneous catheter-based balloon dilatation of obstructive membrane for classic CTS without other associated congenital heart diseases is sound and feasible. The prognosis is well without re-obstruction and the cardiopulmonary fitness after that could be maintain as healthy peers for up to 18 years.
To verify the staging system of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition for uveal melanoma, and to propose the prognostic factors of uveal melanoma by a 45-year cohort study.
We collected patients who underwent operation with pathological proof from 1973 to 2017. The demographic data including gender, age, laterality, metastatic pattern, and histopathology type were recorded. The predictability for survival and monotonicity of gradients of the AJCC 8th edition were evaluated. The prognostic factors for survival were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analysis.
A total of 72 patients were collected. The median age was 55 year-old (range 24-100). No specific gender predilection was revealed in our study. About 75.9% of metastases events happened in the first five-year of follow-up, and hepatic involvement was the most common. By the AJCC 8th edition, the distribution for stage I II III was 8 (11.1%), 37 (51.4%), and 27 (37.5%). The prognostic staging groups manifested fair predictability and monotonicity of gradients for survival outcome.
