The purpose of this study was to evaluate imaging and clinical features of colorectal liver metastases complicated with macroscopic intrabiliary growth, and correlate the unusual pattern of spread with treatment and follow-up.
A retrospective analysis of the clinical, imaging and follow-up files of all patients with surgically resected colorectal liver metastases from January 2016 to October 2020 was reviewed to identify those with macroscopic intrabiliary growth. Two radiologists evaluated the radiological features of colorectal liver metastasis with macroscopic intrabiliary growth. The histopathological findings and follow-up results were also investigated.
A total of 555 patients were included. Colorectal liver metastasis with macroscopic intrabiliary growth was present in 5 patients (0.9 %). Four patients experienced tumor recurrence or progression after surgical treatment (80 %), and recurrent tumors retained propensity for intraductal growth. CT (n = 6) and MR (n = 6) examinations were performed b liver metastasis exhibits characteristic MR and CT imaging features, which help to make an accurate diagnosis and improve treatment plans.
The propensity for colorectal liver metastasis with intrabiliary growth to grow longitudinally and extend beyond the intrahepatic tumor edge elevates the risk of high recurrence after operation. Intrabiliary growth of liver metastasis exhibits characteristic MR and CT imaging features, which help to make an accurate diagnosis and improve treatment plans. How non-symbolic numerosity is visually extracted remains a matter of intense debate. Most evidence suggests that numerosity is directly extracted on individual objects following Weber’s law, at least for a moderate numerical range. Alternative accounts propose that, whatever the range, numerosity is indirectly derived from summary texture-statistics of the raw image such as spatial frequency (SF). Here, to disentangle these accounts, we tested whether the well-known behavioural signature of numerosity encoding (ratio effect) is preserved despite the equalisation of the SF content. In Experiment 1, participants had to select the numerically larger of two briefly presented moderate-range numerical sets (i.e., 8-18 dots) carefully matched for SF; the ratio between numerosities was manipulated by levels of increasing difficulty (e.g., 0.66, 0.75, 0.8). In Experiment 2, participants performed the same task, but they were presented with both the original and SF equalised stimuli. In both experiments, the results clearly showed a ratio-dependence of the performance numerosity discrimination became harder and slower as the ratio between numerosities increased. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ml349.html Moreover, this effect was found to be independent of the stimulus type, although the overall performance was better with the original rather than the SF equalised stimuli (Experiment 2). Taken together, these findings indicate that the power spectrum per se cannot explain the main behavioural signature of Weber-like encoding of numerosities (the ratio effect), at least over the tested numerical range, partially challenging alternative indirect accounts of numerosity processing.Pesticides are a major tool for the intensification of agriculture, and helped to increase food, feed and biofuel production. Yet, there are persistent concerns about the negative effects of pesticides in human health and the environment, particularly in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Given the lack of information on pesticide exposure and hazard, Colombia exemplifies the need to narrow the information gap on pesticide risk in LMICs. We assessed pesticide hazard in Colombia based on the official toxicity categorization, compared it to more integral international standards, and identified main actions to narrow this information gap. Results showed that Colombia has been a relevant regional actor in pesticide production and trade, reaching almost 75 million kilogrammes and liters sold in 2016. Based on acute toxicity for humans, a quarter of the amount of pesticides sales and imports, and a third of the exports in 2016 ranged from moderately to extremenly toxic. The top-selling agrochemicals in 2016 (glyphosate with 14% of the total sales, chlorpyrifos 7.5% and mancozeb 6.9%) are also commonly used in other countries, reflecting a homogenized global industry. Compared to integral international categorizations, we found that for that year 63% of the pesticides sold with slightly acute toxicity are actually considered highly hazardous pesticides (HHP) for humans or the environment, evidencing the need to use a more integral hazard categorization in the country. Narrowing the information gap in pesticide use and associated risks demands a transparent process of knowledge creation and sharing, including funtional information and monitoring systems. This should be part of an integral assessment and regulation that better defines HHP, their production and trade to reduce pesticide risk while informing a transition towards sustainable food systems. In this study, the cellulose sulfate/chitosan aerogel (CCA) was prepared by chitosan and sulfonated cotton, and its efficiency was assessed for lead removal from contaminated waters. The adsorbent was determined by FESEM, EDS, FTIR, and BET analysis. The batch experiments were designed by Design-Expert software. At an initial lead concentration of 300 mg L-1, the contact time of 40 min, and the temperature of 26 °C, the maximum adsorption capacity and the removal efficiency were 137.8 mg g-1 and 91.9%, respectively. Also, the effect of ions including cations and anions at 100 mg L-1 was investigated, and it was found that the presence of anions does not have much effect on adsorption, but among cations, calcium and magnesium have the inhibitor effect on adsorption due to their double plosive. Adsorption isotherms were studied at different temperatures, and the kinetics of the reaction were investigated at different concentrations. Thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic, and increasing irregularity at the adsorbent level. Adsorption recovery was performed five times adsorption and de-adsorption by hydrochloric acid 1 M washing and only 10% of adsorption capacity was decreased.
