A recent study underscores this concept by highlighting the importance of cellular crosstalk for white mater remodeling. In developing brains and in brains injured by hypoxia, interactions between oligodendrocyte precursors and endothelium play an essential role for physiological and compensatory angiogenesis. Further studies are warranted to build on these emerging findings in the oligovascular niche in order to identify novel therapeutic targets for stroke and other CNS diseases.Ischemia is one of the most common causes of acquired brain injury. Central to its noxious sequelae are spreading depolarizations (SDs), waves of persistent depolarizations which start at the location of the flow obstruction and expand outwards leading to excitotoxic damage. The majority of acute stage of stroke studies to date have focused on the phenomenology of SDs and their association with brain damage. In the current work, we investigated the role of peri-injection zone pyramidal neurons in triggering SDs by optogenetic stimulation in an endothelin-1 rat model of focal ischemia. Our concurrent two photon fluorescence microscopy data and local field potential recordings indicated that a ≥ 60% drop in cortical arteriolar red blood cell velocity was associated with SDs at the ET-1 injection site. SDs were also observed in the peri-injection zone, which subsequently exhibited elevated neuronal activity in the low-frequency bands. Critically, SDs were triggered by low- but not high-frequency optogenetic stimulation of peri-injection zone pyramidal neurons. Our findings depict a complex etiology of SDs post focal ischemia and reveal that effects of neuronal modulation exhibit spectral and spatial selectivity.Women in underserved communities are disproportionately affected by chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. The Connecticut Early Detection and Prevention Program (CEDPP) has taken a streamlined approach to improve access to comprehensive preventive health services for minority women and those with incomes below the federal poverty threshold. The CEDPP has implemented Wellness Days to improve outreach in the community and offer opportunities for health assessments, screenings, and education around chronic disease prevention and management. CEDPP contractors coordinated 47 Wellness Days in 2019, reaching 2,509 women and successfully enrolling 107 (4.3%) in the CEDPP. While the majority of Wellness Day events offered health education to participants, only 10.6% offered mammograms and 6.4% offered Papanicolaou (Pap) tests onsite. Through ongoing evaluation efforts, the CEDPP and its contractors have identified opportunities to enhance the success of Wellness Days to connect women with essential preventive services. By expanding its reach, the CEDPP will have a more widespread impact on women’s health across Connecticut. There has been an accumulating evidence of association between COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infection and cardiovascular complications. We describe a case of a 58-year-old lady with a history of systolic heart failure and COVID-19 infection, who developed persistent symptomatic bradycardia, requiring pacemaker placement as unusual conductive tissue involvement of this novel coronavirus.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is viewed as a critical tool to protect against six HPV-related cancers. Vaccination is recommended from early adolescence through age 26 years. As young people have become increasingly involved in personal health-related decisions, there is a need to tailor HPV vaccine messaging and reach this priority population on social media and digital outlets. TikTok is a growing social media platform with approximately 70% of its users between the ages of 13 and 24 years.

The aim of this study was to understand HPV vaccine messaging and interactions on TikTok as a needed first step to identifying effective strategies to reach young people with important health messaging.

Content analysis was performed on 170 top TikToks focused on the HPV vaccine. TikToks were assessed for content, classification type, and number of interactions.

Most TikToks were provaccine, while antivaccine TikToks had more user interactions. Cancer and prevention were the main content areas of the analyzed provaccine TikToks, while the side effects were the primary focus of antivaccine messages. Approximately 30% of all top TikToks analyzed were developed by health professionals. TikToks without an explicit vaccine opinion primarily described personal experiences and mentioned side effects most often.

TikTok is a growing social media platform that can be used to reach young people and encourage HPV vaccine uptake. Health professionals need to consider the interest that users have in personal experiences and address antivaccine narratives related to side effects.

This article describes a more accessible adaptation of SOPARC using video recordings for community organizations to obtain physical activity feedback at Play Streets. Narrated panoramic video scans occurred every 30 minutes at each Play Street using an iPad. Videographers narrated (1) sex, (2) age group (child, teen, adult, senior), and (3) activity level (sedentary, walking, vigorous) for everyone recorded. SOPARC video scans, in-person iSOPARC observations, and interviews were conducted with Play Streets implementors to determine validity and feasibility. Validity was examined using Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient (CCC). In-person and video scans showed near perfect agreement for sedentary individuals (CCC = .95) and substantial agreement for active individuals (CCC = .
