Density functional theory calculations suggest that the NHC ligands minimize unfavorable electrostatic interactions between the copper phosphide surface and H+ during the first step of the hydrogen evolution reaction, which contributes to the superior performance of NHC-ligated Cu3-xP catalysts as compared to oleylamine-ligated Cu3-xP catalysts. The hazards posed by blue light to human eyes are attracting significant attention owing to increasing exposure to electronic devices as well as artificial illumination. Therefore , in this study, nanostructured BiVO4 (BVO) double films were developed using an economical and environmentally friendly sol-gel spin-coating method; the films exhibited excellent blue-light shielding capabilities. They could block 65.04% of the blue light in the 415-455 nm wavelength range while simultaneously maintaining an average transmittance greater than 85% in the 500-800 nm wavelength range. Moreover, the damp heat test (85 ℃, 85% relative humidity) showed the excellent stability of the BVO filters as their transmittances remained unchanged for 15 d . Importantly, cell experiments were performed to further confirm the protective effects of the BVO filters against the hazards posed by blue light to ARPE-19 cells (human retinal pigment epithelium cell line). Furthermore, the blue-light weighted radiance, LB, decreased by 34.32%, and color rendering index (Ra) showed negligible differences after applying an up-scaled BVO filter to a phone screen. These cost-efficient, eco-friendly, highly reliable, and large-area nanostructured BVO films with high blue-light shielding efficiency have potential applications in various areas. As a promising advanced computation technology, the integration of digital computation with neuromorphic computation into a single physical platform holds the advantage of a precise, deterministic, fast data process as well as the advantage of a flexible, paralleled, fault-tolerant data process. PD0325901 cell line Even though two-terminal memristive devices have been respectively proved as leading electronic elements for digital computation and neuromorphic computation, it is difficult to steadily maintain both sudden-state-change and gradual-state-change in a single device due to the entirely different operating mechanisms. In this work, we developed a digital-analog compatible memristive device, namely, binary electronic synapse, through realizing controllable cation drift in a memristive layer. The devices feature nonvolatile binary memory as well as artificial neuromorphic plasticity with high operation endurance. With strong nonlinearity in switching dynamics, binary switching, neuromorphic plasticity, two-dimension information store, and trainable memory can be implemented by a single device.Direct solar desalination with excellent solar photothermal efficiency, lower cost, and extended generator device lifetime is beneficial to increase potable water supplies. To address fundamental challenges in direct solar desalination, herein, we present a new and facile method for the scalable fabrication of the polymer porous foam (VMP) as salt-resistant photothermal materials, which was synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method using styrene and 1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate as monomers and N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide as the cross-linking agent. The as-resulted VMP shows excellent mechanical properties which could have a compression strain of 30%, resulting in its superior processability for practical operation. In addition, by taking advantage of its inherent low density, well-controlled porous structure (porosity is 73.81%), and extremely low thermal conductivity (0.03204 W m-1 K-1), the VMP exhibits an excellent solar evaporation property, and the solar photothermal efficiency can reach more than 88% under 1 kW m-2 irradiation. Moreover, the introduction of ionic liquid moiety (imidazolium tetrafluoroborate) into VMP results in its interesting superhydrophilic wettability, which can accelerate water transportation (wetting in 5s) and resolve the crystalline salt within 1.13 h. In addition, the interconnected macropores of the VMP, as water channels, can replenish the vaporized brine on the surface to prevent salt from adhering. The VMP shows a salt-resistant performance, for example, its solar evaporation efficiency remains nearly unchanged after 6 h duration under 1 sun irradiation. Based on its simple and cost-effective manufacturing process, excellent solar photothermal efficiency, and salt resistance, our VMP may be a promising candidate as photothermal materials for practical desalination from seawater and other wastewater.Since the first case of coronavirus disease19 (COVID-19) was reported in Wuhan, China, as of March 2, 2020, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 was 89,069 cases in 67 countries and regions. As of 0 am, March 2, 2020, the Republic of Korea had the second-largest number of confirmed cases (n = 4,212) after China (n = 80,026). This report summarizes the epidemiologic features and the snapshots of the outbreak in the Republic of Korea from January 19 and March 2, 2020. © 2020 The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.Kyphoscoliotic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (kEDS) is an autosomal recessive connective tissue disorder characterized by muscular hypotonia, hyperextensible skin, skin fragility, joint hypermobility, and progressive kyphoscoliosis. The disorder results from a deficiency of the enzyme collagen lysyl hydroxylase 1 due to mutations in the gene PLOD1. We describe the rare cases of kEDS in Korean siblings with two novel compound heterozygous variants, c.926_934del (p.Leu309_Leu311del) and c.2170_2172del (p.Phe724del) in the PLOD1 gene. They had congenital hypotonia, joint laxity, skin hyperextensibility, Marfanoid habitus, high myopia and atrophic scarring. The younger sibling had an early-onset progressive kyphoscoliosis, while the older sibling showed mild scoliosis during childhood. Intrafamilial variability of the clinical severity and age of kyphoscoliosis onset observed in our cases. © 2020 The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.BACKGROUND Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a serious complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies. It results from disproportionate blood supply to each fetus caused by abnormal vascular anastomosis within the placenta. Amniotic fluid (AF) is an indicator reflecting the various conditions of the fetus, and an imbalance in AF volume is essential for the antenatal diagnosis of TTTS by ultrasound. In this study, two different mass spectrometry quantitative approaches were performed to identify differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) within matched pairs of AF samples. METHODS We characterized the AF proteome in pooled AF samples collected from donor and recipient twin pairs (n = 5 each) with TTTS by a global proteomics profiling approach and then preformed the statistical analysis to determine the DEPs between the two groups. Next, we carried out a targeted proteomic approach (multiple reaction monitoring) with DEPs to achieve high-confident TTTS-associated AF proteins. RESULTS A total of 103 AF proteins that were significantly altered in their abundances between donor and recipient fetuses.
