Introduction Globally, approximately three million neonates die in the first month of life. Neonatal mortality is a public problem in low and middle-income counties. Home-based good newborn care practice by lactating mothers is vital to improve newborns’ health. In Ethiopia, home-based cultural newborn care practice among lactating mothers is very common, in contrast to standard essential newborn care practice. Thus, this study aimed to assess home-based newborn care practices among lactating mothers and associated factors in rural districts of Gedeo Zone, Southern Ethiopia, in 2018. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in the rural districts of Gedeo Zone, Southern Ethiopia. A single population formula was used to determine the sample size, and 834 lactating mothers were enrolled in the study. L-Ornithine L-aspartate clinical trial Multistage sampling techniques were used to select study participants. Data were collected using a pre-tested interviewer-administered structured questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS version 22 s.Background and Objectives To determine the rate of significant endometrial abnormalities in premenopausal women at low risk for endometrial hyperplasia and cancer presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Patients and Methods This descriptive study was conducted from January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2019. The inclusion criteria were premenopausal women, 35-50 years, presenting with AUB, low risk for endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer, and having undergone endometrial sampling or uterine curettage. Nulliparous, obesity, diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome, chronic anovulation, infertility, tamoxifen therapy and/or a family history of uterine, ovarian, breast and colon cancer were excluded. Data regarding baseline characteristics were collected, and histopathology reports were reviewed. Results During the study period, 644 subjects were recruited, 557 of whom had adequate endometrial tissue for histopathology study. The pathology demonstrated benign in most cases (96%). The rate of significant abnormal endometrial pathology was 4% (23 cases) including 19 cases of endometrial hyperplasia without atypia (3.3%), and 4 cases of endometrial cancer (0.7%). Conclusion The rate of significant abnormal endometrial pathology in premenopausal women at low risk for endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer presenting with AUB was very low. This information should be incorporated into the counseling process regarding the risks and benefits of endometrial sampling. © 2020 Sattanakho et al.Objective The purpose of this study was to assess the level of psychological stress and the perceived stressors among the undergraduate clinical dental students of Shiraz School of Dentistry. Materials and Methods This study was conducted during the second semester of the academic year 2018-2019 at Shiraz School of Dentistry, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Iran. The study group consisted of 150 dental clinical students. The participants were surveyed via the validated Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the Dental Environment Stress (DES) questionnaires. One-way ANOVA, post hoc Tukey’s test, repeated measure ANOVA, Holm-Sidak’s test, and t-test were performed to analyze the data after the normality of the data was checked by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The P values of less than 0.05 were considered as statistically significant. Results No significant differences were observed among the dental students with different academic levels in terms of depression and anxiety scores (P=0.057 and 0.154, respectively). The lowest and highest stress scores were observed among the sixth- and fifth-year students, respectively (P values less then 0.05). The scores of the stressors associated with the academic factors were significantly higher than those of the other domains (P less then 0.05) except for that of the clinical education domain (P=0.070). The females showed significantly higher DES scores (P values less then 0.05). Conclusion The highest and lowest stress levels were observed among the fifth- and sixth-year students, respectively. The primary sources of stress were academic factors and clinical education. The females expressed higher levels of stress in certain areas of dental training. © 2020 Jowkar et al.Background In Germany, the pre-university grade point average (pu-GPA) has to be the main criterion for medical school applicant selection. This is also mandatory in the university-specific selection procedures (Auswahlverfahren der Hochschulen ). The admission framework has now been reworked following a judgement by the German Federal Constitutional Court. From 2020, more students will be admitted based solely on the pu-GPA and at least two selection criteria independent of the pu-GPA have to be considered in the AdH. However, the question whether an AdH (the core of the AdH at Lübeck Medical School , Germany, is a 30-mins panel interview led by two faculty members and one student) leads to better doctors as compared to pu-GPA-based selection, remains unanswered. Objective To compare students selected based either on their pu-GPA alone (“pu-GPA-students”) or based on the result of the AdH at LMS (“AdH-students”) regarding their suitability to become a good doctor. Design We conducted a cross-sectional observational pilot study at LMS. Students were judged regarding their overall suitability to become a good doctor by their supervising general practitioners after a two-week internship in their last year of theoretical medical education. The scores were matched to the selection procedure and compared between the pu-GPA-students and AdH-students. Results In all, 79% of the AdH-students were rated as “absolutely suitable” for the medical profession, as compared to 42% of the pu-GPA-students (p = 0.01, odds ratio 5.17, 95% confidence interval = 1.41, 18.99). We did not find any association between gender or age and the suitability rating. Conclusion Despite the small sample size, our results indicate that it could be favourable to select medical students not only based on their pu-GPA but also using additional selection criteria. © 2020 Kötter et al.
