armigera. Our findings revealed that the microbiota plays an important role in modulating the resistance of H. armigera to baculovirus infection, providing new insights in applying biopesticide. In Japan, oral administration of tegafur-uracil is recommended as postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for patients diagnosed with primary lung adenocarcinomas of >2 cm size and staged as IA, IB, and IIA. Reports on chemotherapy-induced pericardial effusion are rare. Herein, we report a rare case of tegafur-uracil-induced pericardial effusion during postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for primary lung cancer. A 60-year-old man underwent left lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection for left lower lung adenocarcinoma. Lung cancer was staged as IB, and tegafur-uracil was administered as postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy from 1 month after the surgery. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a pericardial effusion 5 months after the surgery. A malignant pericardial effusion was suspected, and tegafur-uracil was discontinued. Pericardiocentesis could not be performed owing to a small amount of pericardial effusion. An 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/CT scan revealed no abnormal FDG uptake. During a short follow-up period after discontinuation of tegafur-uracil, a CT scan revealed a decrease in pericardial effusion, suggesting that the pericardial effusion was induced by tegafur-uracil. Follow-up of pericardial effusion is required while administering tegafur-uracil. In cases of pericardial effusion without symptoms and no suspicious metastatic lesions in other organs, we should be concerned about tegafur-uracil-induced pericardial effusion.Hydroxyapatite (HAP) forms the main inorganic component of natural bone and hence has been widely use in implant applications. Ionic substitutions in apatite also gains enormous interest during the recent years due to the crucial role played by these elements in the biological process. In this context, the least investigated elements namely lanthanum (La3+ ) and praseodymium (Pr3+ ) have been selected as a potential substitutions in apatite. The results from the analytical techniques confirm the phase purity of the HAP and its ability holds the substitutions at its lattice. Morphological analysis unveils the presence of agglomerated spheroids notwithstanding the ion concentration of substituents. EDX spectra affirm the presence of La and Pr alongside the determined Ca/P atomic ratio of 1.67. La3+ and Pr3+ presence envisaged the good antibacterial efficiency against the tested microbes and further demonstrated the biocompatibility nature from the cytotoxicity analysis.
Multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) discussion and early palliative care are recommended in lung cancer management. The literature is unclear whether MDM discussion leads to early palliative care and improved end-of-life care.
To evaluate impacts of discussion at an Australian lung MDM on palliative care referral, and MDM and early palliative care on aggressive end-of-life care.
A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted of 352 patients diagnosed with primary lung cancer from 2017 to 2019 at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. The primary question was whether MDM discussion influenced palliative care referrals. Secondary questions were whether MDM discussion and early palliative care reduced aggressive treatment (chemotherapy, hospitalisation, emergency department visits, intensive care admission and in-hospital death) during the last 30 days of life. Multivariable logistic regression was used to determine independent association between MDM discussion and palliative care referral.
MDM discussion die care referral-to-death interval was associated with reduced aggressive end-of-life care. Further research is needed in these areas. The role of stress on adolescents and its impact on development and mental health is of significant psychological concern. Previous research has investigated physiological changes, stressor characteristics and individual differences in stress responding. Experimental procedures that closely simulate naturally occurring psychosocial stressors have primarily been achievement-related (e.g., test taking, competitive tasks and psychomotor performance) and anxiety-provoking tasks (e.g., public speaking, improvisation and invasive medical-procedures) but few seek to elicit frustration. To address this gap, a new experimental procedure was developed and validated against the Trier Social Stress Test for Teens, with a Low Stress condition as a control. Conflict-related stressors, such as parent- and peer-related debates, have been found to be effective in provoking frustration in adolescents. The Frustration Social Stressor for Adolescents (FSS-A), a moderate frustration-provoking stressor involves a peer debate on a ‘hot’ topic, followed by a serial subtraction task with still-faced judges. The FSS-A procedure effectively elicited reliable and valid physiological (cortisol, heart rate) stress responses and was an effective stressor for both sexes. This new, stress protocol mirrors frustrating- and anxiety-provoking stressful situations that adolescents commonly encounter and affords a more detailed study of differential stress response patterns, increased understanding of adolescent stress, and potential for psychoeducational programming, such as directions for education and therapeutic intervention.
Following treatment of Stage III colorectal cancer, guidelines recommend 3-5years of surveillance for recurrence. However, over half of the 1.2million U.S. survivors of colorectal cancer fail to receive guideline-concordant surveillance. In light of growing recognition that members of couples are interdependent and influence each other’s health behaviors, we sought to describe, in their own words, the perspectives of spouses/partners on their engagement in patients’ surveillance.
We conducted in-person, semi-structured interviews with 10 survivors of stage III colorectal cancer and their partners, together and separately. selleck Interviews were transcribed verbatim, iteratively coded, and analyzed to identify emergent themes pertaining to partner engagement. Findings were validated through triangulation between study team members and triangulation between dyadic and individual interviews, and through an extensive search of transcripts for disconfirming evidence.
We identified three overarching domains of partner engagement in surveillance.
