To compare surgical (ST) and non-surgical (NST) debridement for the treatment of peri-implantitis in a two-center randomized trial.
Forty-five individuals with 63 implants with probing depth (PPD) ≥5mm, bleeding on probing (BOP), and radiographic bone loss ≥2mm were included. In the NST (30 implants), submucosal debridement was performed. In the ST (33 implants), a mucoperiosteal flap was raised and surfaces were decontaminated only by debridement as performed in NST. Clinical parameters and radiographs were compared at baseline and after 12 months. Means and standard errors were reported.
PPD considering all implant sites reduced significantly in NST from 4.14±0.25 to 3.25±0.18mm. In ST, PPD also significantly changed (3.74±0.22 to 3.00±0.29mm). No significant differences were observed between the two groups. For deep sites (≥7mm), PPD was 7.82±0.20mm at baseline and reduced to 5.10±0.30mm in NST, while in ST group, it was 7.11±0.11mm and changed to 5.22±0.91mm (between-groups p value=0.51). BOP signifaffected implants achieve health after surgical or non-surgical debridement. Considering the lack of clinically relevant differences between these two treatments, non-surgical debridement should be considered the first therapeutic choice for peri-implantitis, mainly mild to moderate cases.Internet-delivered interventions can be effective in treating mental disorders. However, their rate of use in German psychiatric inpatient routine care is low. The current study aimed to investigate the attitude of mental health care professionals working in inpatient care regarding internet-delivered interventions, including presumed benefits, barriers and facilitators. In total, 176 health professionals from ten inpatient psychiatric hospitals throughout Germany were surveyed on site. The professionals’ attitude towards internet-delivered interventions in inpatient care was assessed by an adapted version of the ‘Attitude toward Telemedicine in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy’ (ATTiP) questionnaire. To identify benefits, barriers and facilitators, we developed open-response questions that were based on the ‘Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology’ (UTAUT) and analyzed by a qualitative content analysis. Professionals reported little experience or knowledge about internet-delivered interventions. Their attitude towards internet-delivered interventions in psychiatric inpatient care was rather indifferent. The most frequently mentioned potential benefits were an optimised treatment structure and patient empowerment; the most frequently anticipated barriers were too severe symptoms of patients, the feared neglect of face-to-face contacts and insufficient technical equipment; and the most frequently mentioned facilitators were high usability of the internet-based intervention, a sufficient functional level of the patient and further education of staff. For successful implementation in the inpatient sector, internet-delivered interventions must be adapted to the special needs of severely mentally ill patients and to the hospital management systems and workflow. In addition, technical preconditions (internet access, devices) must be met. Last, further education of mental health care professionals is needed.Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) offer heart failure (HF) diagnostic information, including intrathoracic impedance (ITI) or physical activity (PA). However, few studies have evaluated the utility of these parameters measured by CIEDs with CorVue algorithm. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between ITI alerts triggered by the CorVue algorithm and HF development. We also examined the association between device-measured PA and ITI alerts associated with HF development. We retrospectively studied consecutive patients with CIEDs equipped with CorVue algorithm, which were implanted between June 1, 2011 and August 31, 2019. These patients were divided into two groups patients with decreased ITI followed by the ITI alerts (ITI alert group) and those without the alerts (non-ITI alert group). There were 35 and 14 patients in the ITI and non-ITI alert groups, respectively. ICG-001 concentration A total of 96 ITI alerts were observed. ITI alerts associated with HF development were observed in 21% (20/96); whereas, ITI alerts not associated with HF development were observed in 79% (76/96). Accurate device-measured PA was confirmed in 76 ITI alerts, which consisted of 30 alerts with lower PA and 46 alerts without lower PA. ITI alerts associated with HF development were observed in 30% (9/30) of the alerts with lower PA, whereas observed only in 6.5% (3/46) of the alerts without lower PA. In conclusion, the CorVue ITI alerts indicated a high false-positive rate. However, device-measured PA may be useful to determine whether ITI alerts are associated with HF development or not, which was attributed to the high negative predictive value.Understanding the invasion processes of biological species is a fundamental issue in ecology. Several mathematical models have been proposed to estimate the spreading speed of species. In recent decades, it was reported that some mathematical models of population dynamics have an explicit form of the evolution equations for the spreading front, which are represented by free boundary problems such as the Stefan-like problem (e.g., Mimura et al., Jpn J Appl Math 2151-186, 1985; Du and Lin, SIAM J Math Anal 42377-405, 2010). To understand the formation of the spreading front, in this paper, we will consider the singular limit of three-component reaction-diffusion models and give some interpretations for spreading front from the viewpoint of modeling. As an application, we revisit the issue of the spread of the grey squirrel in the UK and estimate the spreading speed of the grey squirrel based on our result.
