The present abridged guideline is designed to be accessible and practical for assessing and managing patients with COPD. The application of up-to-date COPD guidelines may enhance the optimism of physicians and patients in managing this disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of high mobility group protein-1 (HMGB1) in the proliferation and migration of lung cancer cells. CCK-8 assays and colony formation assays were used to evaluate the effect of HMGB1 regulation on cancer cell viability and colony formation. Trans-well assays and wound healing assays were also performed. Our data showed that HMGB1 is upregulated in clinical lung cancer tissues compared with non-cancer tissues, and it is differentially expressed in lung cancer cell lines. The knockdown of HMGB1 in A549 lung cancer cells significantly reduced cell proliferation, viability and motility. In contrast, overexpression of HMGB1 in lung cancer H1299 cells significantly increased cell viability and motility. Western blotting showed that HMGB1 could promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The Wnt/β-catenin pathway was activated after overexpression of HMGB1 in H1299 cells, while it was inactivated by knocking down HMGB1 in A549 cells. These data suggest that HMGB1 promotes the proliferation and migration of lung cancer cells in vitro. The carcinogenic behavior of HMGB1 can be achieved by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.

Lupus enteritis (LE) is a rare but well-known gastrointestinal manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study was conducted to identify prognostic factors associated with poor responses in patients with LE.

We consecutively registered patients diagnosed with LE between January 2009 and October 2019, and retrospectively compared their clinical characteristics based on whether they had good or poor responses to treatment.

A total of 13 patients (17 episodes) were included. The median age was 41 years, and 12 patients were female. A comparison of clinical characteristics between groups revealed similar computed tomography (CT) findings. However, serum CH50 levels were significantly lower in the poor response group (median ; 29.2 U/mL vs 19.3 U/mL,

= .0095). More patients in the poor response group had higher titers of anti-cardiolipin β2-glycoprotein I antibody (anti-CL β2GPI Ab) and were started on glucocorticoids (GCs) at moderate doses. In multivariable analysis, serum CH50 level was independently associated with poor response to induction therapy.

Lower levels of CH50 at the time of initial treatment predicted inadequate treatment response in patients with LE.

This study investigated the results of 3 years of denosumab treatment for osteoporosis in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and primary osteoporosis (PO).

This study enrolled 112 women with RA (RA group) and 104 women with a PO group who received 60 mg denosumab for 3 years. Bone mineral densitiy (BMD) of the lumbar spine, total hip and femoral neck as well as levels of bone turnover markers were measured at years 1, 2, and 3.

    The percent changes (Δ) in BMD values at years 1, 2, and 3 were as follows RA group 6.7 ± 6.2%, 8.9 ± 6.5%, and 9.8 ± 8.2% and PO group 6.0 ± 4.8%, 8.9 ± 7.5%, and 12.6 ± 8.7% for the lumbar spine; RA group 4.5 ± 4.6%, 5.2 ± 5.1%, and 6.8 ± 5.9% and PO group 3.8 ± 4.5%, 4.6 ± 7.4%, and 6.8 ± 4.6% for the total hip; and RA group 2.7 ± 5.1%, 4.1 ± 6.8%, and 4.3 ± 6.7% and PO group 3.6 ± 8.0%, 4.5 ± 10.9%, and 5.7 ± 10.5% for the femoral neck, respectively. The ΔBMD for the lumbar spine, total hip, and femoral neck as well as ΔP1NP and ΔTRACP-5b did not differ significantly between the two groups at any time points.

Denosumab treatment for osteoporosis had a similar efficacy over 3 years among women with RA and PO. selleck compound A better understanding of denosumab treatment for this patient population is important in clinical practice.

This study aimed to assess whether sentinel lymph node mapping (SLNM) is applicable in endometrial cancer. A retrospective review of patients with endometrial cancer who were diagnosed and treated in Asan Medical Centre from September 2015 to December 2017 was conducted. One hundred patients underwent robotic (da Vinci®) or laparoscopic surgical treatment, including SLNM with indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence detection using the Firefly® and NIR/ICG systems. At least one lymph node area was observed in 100% of SLNM cases. Sentinel node detection and frozen biopsy were performed in all cases, and all patients with metastasis were found on SLNM. The sensitivity and negative predictive value were both 100% in the patient-by-patient and station-by-station analyses. SLNM appears to be a feasible method to reduce the morbidity and increase the detection rate in early-stage endometrial carcinoma. What is already known on this subject? There are studies that it is safe to diagnose the possibility of lymph node metastasis through sentinel lymph node mapping in endometrial cancer. What do the results of this study add? In this study, it is shown that the accuracy of sentinel lymph node mapping is 100% accurate. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practise and/or further research? Therefore, total lymphadenectomy will not be necessary for the future. Background Impaired endothelial function is thought to contribute to the increased cardiovascular risk associated with above-normal blood pressure (BP). However, the association between endothelial function and BP classified by 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines is unknown. Our objective was to determine if endothelial function decreases in midlife/older adults across the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines BP classifications and identify associated mechanisms of action. Methods and Results A retrospective analysis of endothelial function (brachial artery flow-mediated dilation) from 988 midlife/older adults (aged 50+ years) stratified by BP status (normal BP; elevated BP; stage 1 hypertension; stage 2 hypertension) was performed. Endothelium-independent dilation (sublingual nitroglycerin), reactive oxygen species-mediated suppression of endothelial function (∆brachial artery flow-mediated dilation with vitamin C infusion), and endothelial cell and plasma markers of oxidative stress and inflammation were assessed in subgroups.
