    Asians increasingly seek non-surgical facial esthetic treatments, especially at younger ages. Published recommendations and clinical evidence mostly reference Western populations, but Asians differ from them in terms of attitudes to beauty, structural facial anatomy, and signs and rates of aging. A thorough knowledge of the key esthetic concerns and requirements for the Asian face is required to strategize appropriate facial esthetic treatments with botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers.

    The Asian Facial Aesthetics Expert Consensus Group met to develop consensus statements on concepts of facial beauty, key esthetic concerns, facial anatomy, and aging in Southeastern and Eastern Asians, as a prelude to developing consensus opinions on the cosmetic facial use of botulinum toxin and HA fillers in these populations.

In the present study, we examined DNA damage in cattle living in the “difficult-to-return zone” by 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine, comet, and micronucleus assays using their peripheral blood. The radiation exposure dose rate at the sampling time was approximately 0.25 or 0.38 mGy/day and the cumulative dose was estimated at approximately 1000 mGy. Significant increase in DNA damage was not detected by any of the three methods. As DNA damage is a stochastic effect of radiation, it might be occurring in animals living in the contaminated area. However, the present results suggest that radiation-induced DNA damage in the cattle did not increase to the level detectable by the assays we used due to the low dose rate in this area.

    To evaluate the performance of a new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tool for tooth detection and segmentation on panoramic radiographs.

    In total, 153 radiographs were collected. A dentomaxillofacial radiologist labeled and segmented each tooth, serving as the ground truth. DFMO in vivo Class-agnostic crops with one tooth resulted in 3576 training teeth. The AI-driven tool combined two deep convolutional neural networks with expert refinement. Accuracy of the system to detect and segment teeth was the primary outcome, time analysis secondary. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to evaluate differences of performance metrics among teeth groups and different devices and chi-square test to verify associations among the amount of corrections, presence of false positive and false negative, and crown and root parts of teeth with potential AI misinterpretations.

    The system achieved a sensitivity of 98.9% and a precision of 99.6% for tooth detection. For segmenting teeth, lower canines presented best results with the following values for intersection over union, precision, recall, F1-score, and Hausdorff distances 95.3%, 96.9%, 98.3%, 97.5%, and 7.9, respectively. Although still above 90%, segmentation results for both upper and lower molars were somewhat lower. The method showed a clinically significant reduction of 67% of the time consumed for the manual.

    Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is an oral mucous disease caused by betel quid chewing. It is controversial whether OSF can transform into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

    In this prospective study, a group of 567 patients with OSF were enrolled from 1986 to 2017 and followed-up until 2019. The cancerous information was collected and analyzed.

    OSF transformed into OSCC in 32 cases (32/567, 5.6%). The patient’s age ranged from 20 to 69years, and the average age was 52years. The time taken for transformation ranged from 2to 24years, the average being 8.6years. The cancerous transformation occurred in 18 patients (56%) from years 2 to 9, in 13 patients (41%) from years 10-19 and in 1 patient (3%) from 24years. We analyzed the betel quid chewing habits and found all 32 patients with OSCC-chewed betel quid. Betel quid chewing was most prevalent in patients aged 40-69years. Sixteen patients had chewed betel quid for 10-19years (16/32, 50%) and 19 patients (60%) chewed 10-19 slices each day. The OSCC was located in the left or right buccal regions in 23 patients (23/32; 72%) and in the left or right lingual regions in 4 patients (4/32; 12%). Well, moderately and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma was present in 23 patients (23/32; 72%), 4 patients (3/32; 9%), and 5 patients (5/32; 16%), respectively.

    Our findings supported that OSF is a real oral premalignant disorder.
