s that surgeons will face in the next time.Joint replacement affects the proprioception, as shown in knees, elbows, and shoulder studies.
The aim was to evaluate shoulder joint position sense (JPS) following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) for patients with cuff arthropathy.
Twenty-nine patients that underwent unilateral rTSA (19 females, 10 males) and 31 healthy volunteers evaluated for JPS of shoulder using a dedicated high accuracy electronic goniometer. Error of active reproduction of joint position (EARJP) was assessed at the following reference positions 30°, 60°, 90°, and 120° for forward flexion and abduction and 15°, 30°, and 45° for internal and external rotation in rTSA, contralateral non-operated, and control shoulders.
Results of EPRJP for rTSA, contralateral, and control (respectively) are as followsForward flexion 30° = (8.0± 5.7, 9.8± 6.1, and 4.9± 3.0), 60° = (5.0± 2.8, 5.9± 2.7, and 5.1± 3.2), 90° = (3.1± 1.6, 5.5± 2.6, and 3.2± 1.4), and 120° = (3.4± 2.1, 5.6± 4.0, and 3.5± 1.7)Abduction 30° = (5.2± 2.5, 9.1± 6.1, anIt seems that rTSA restores shoulder proprioception.
The aim of this study was to compare clinical and radiologic outcomes of a modified all-inside arthroscopic remnant-preserving technique of lateral ankle ligament reconstruction with traditional open reconstruction.
From January 2012 and March 2016, 60 eligible patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) received all arthroscopic remnant-preserving reconstruction or open reconstruction of the anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament using semitendinosus autograft. They were divided into the arthroscopic group (n = 28) and the open group (n = 32). The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS),visual analog scale (VAS), and Karlsson scores and ankle range of motion (ROM) were used to evaluate clinical outcomes pre-operatively and at six and 12 months and the final follow-up of at least 24 months post-operatively, with SF-36 physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores evaluated for quality of life, and the anterior talar translation and taiod.
The modified all-inside arthroscopic remnant-preserving technique of lateral ankle ligament reconstruction could produce excellent clinical and radiologic outcomes comparable with open reconstruction.

Paediatric septic arthritis, although a rare diagnosis in the developed world, remains a significant challenge in the New Zealand population. In recent years, there has been effort to characterize the nature of paediatric bone and joint infection for New Zealand due to rising incidence of osteomyelitis and staphylococcal sepsis . We have sought to identify trends in presentation, diagnosis and management of paediatric septic arthritis, with added focus on ethnicity and access to healthcare.
A ten year retrospective review of all cases < 16 years with presumed septic arthritis presenting to a tertiary referral centre between 2008 and 2018 was performed.
A total of 103 cases met inclusion criteria. BiP Inducer X Mean age was 5.9 years (SD +/- 4.17) with a male predominance (64%). Traditional laboratory culture method isolated an organism in 66% of cases Staphylococcus aureus was the most common pathogen identified (61%). Incidence varied greatly by ethnicity 116,000 for NZ European children; 18760 for Pacifica.
Little is known regarding characteristics of hospitalized dermatomyositis (DM) patients. Understanding the unique characteristics of hospitalized DM patients with underlying malignancy is important in guiding development of specific work-up and treatment algorithms.
We aim to characterize the inpatient burden of DM patients with malignancy (DM malignancy), determine unique characteristics of DM-malignancy inpatients, and assess trends and predictors of cost of care and length of stay for hospitalized DM-malignancy patients.
Hospitalized DM patients with and without malignancy were characterized and compared using 2009-2015 National Inpatient Sample. Associated malignancies, risk factors for malignancy, and trends/predictors for cost of care and length of stay were evaluated using multivariable models.
Prevalence of malignancies among hospitalized DM inpatients was 10.9%. Age > 40years and female sex were significantly associated with increased malignancy risk in DM inpatients. Numerous malignanciesrizing hospitalized DM patients is warranted in order to optimize work-up and treatment guidelines for these patients.Although tanning is widespread, the use of both indoor and outdoor tanning most often begins in adolescence and young adulthood and is more prevalent in adolescents and young adults (AYA) than any other age group. Despite this, information regarding sun safety education in high school curricula is limited. In this pilot study, we sought to characterize the presence of education regarding sun safety in the curricula of US public high schools. Cross-sectional survey administered to random sample stratified by state of public high schools in the US. 31 high schools from 22 states submitted survey responses (Fig. 1). Ten high schools (32.2%) provided curricula regarding sun safety. Southern high schools were less likely to provide sun safety education (p = 0.01). The lack of an association between sociodemographic characteristics of the high school and the provision of sun safety curricula suggests that the lack of sun safety education may be widespread. These findings support a call to action regarding further research to better characterize the efficacy of implementing sun safety education in high school curricula. Educational interventions designed to inform high school students about sun safety present a unique opportunity to intervene in the rising skin cancer rates in the AYA population. As rates of skin cancer in AYA continue to rise, it is vital to develop strategies to implement education regarding sun safety and skin cancer risk factors in high school curricula.
