Coronavirus-related conspiracy theories (CT) have been found to be associated with fewer pandemic containment-focused behaviors. It is therefore important to evaluate associated cognitive factors. We aimed to obtain first endorsement rate estimates of coronavirus-related conspiracy beliefs in a German-speaking general population sample and investigate whether delusion-related reasoning biases and paranoid ideation are associated with such beliefs.

We conducted a cross-sectional non-probability online study, quota-sampled for age and gender, with 1684 adults from Germany and German-speaking Switzerland. We assessed general and specific coronavirus conspiracy beliefs, reasoning biases , and paranoid ideation, using established experimental paradigms and self-report questionnaires.

Around 10% of our sample endorsed coronavirus-related CT beliefs at least stronglThese beliefs are associated with reasoning biases studied in delusion research. The non-probability sampling approach limits the generalizability of findings. Future longitudinal and experimental studies investigating conspiracy beliefs along the lines of reasoning are encouraged to validate reasoning aberrations as risk factors.

Assess the acute and short-term haemodynamic impact of transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation on left ventricular systolic and diastolic function stratified by pre-transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation physiology.

Transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation is a widely available option to treat residual or recurrent pulmonary stenosis and pulmonary insufficiency. Transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation acutely increases pulmonary artery size and diastolic pressure in patients with pulmonary insufficiency and acute pulmonary edema has been reported after transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation, possibly related to acute left ventricular volume loading. However, the impact of transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation on left ventricular diastolic function has not been established.

Patients who underwent transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation from 2010 to 2017 at our centre were grouped by indication for transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation as pulmonary stenosis, pulmonary insufficients with pulmonary insufficiency likely have acute left ventricular volume loading following transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation, this does not appear to be haemodynamically significant as transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation was not associated with measurable changes in left ventricular systolic or diastolic function acutely or 1-year post implantation.

Low socioeconomic status has been shown to be associated with low child immunization and health care utilization, but the inequalities in immunization coverage due to social and economic factors are poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the association between child immunization coverage and various socioeconomic factors and to quantify their contributions to generating inequalities in immunization coverage in India. The study data are from the National Family Health Survey-4 conducted in 2015-16. The association between socioeconomic determinants and child full immunization coverage was estimated using the χ2 test and binary logistic regression. Concentration indices were estimated to measure the magnitude of inequality, and these were further decomposed to explain the contribution of different socioeconomic factors to the total disparity in full immunization coverage. The results showed that the uptake of immunization in 2015-16 was highly associated with mother’s educational status and household wealth. The concentration index decomposition revealed that inequality (immunization disadvantage) was highest among poorer economic groups and among children whose mothers were illiterate. The overall concentration index value indicates that the weaker socioeconomic groups in India are more disadvantaged in terms of immunization interventions. The results offer insight into the dynamics of the variation in immunization coverage in India and help identify vulnerable populations that should be targeted to decrease socioeconomic inequalities in the country.

Approximately 25 % of Canadian children aged 4-8 years fail to meet the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of calcium (Ca). Young children’s food choices are primarily determined by their parents. Glecirasib mw No interventions have directly targeted parents as a medium through which to increase children’s Ca consumption. This study compared the effectiveness of a Ca-specific intervention targeted towards parents, with generic dietary advice on the Ca consumption of children aged 4-10 years.

A parallel two-arm randomised controlled trial was conducted.

The study was conducted across Canada. Both conditions received information on the RDA of Ca and an index of intake requirements. Material sent to the intervention condition included behavioural strategies to increase dietary Ca consumption, information on the benefits of dietary Ca intake and messages addressing perceived barriers to the consumption of Ca-rich foods.

A total of 239 parents (93 % mothers) of children aged 4-10 years who consumed less than the RDA of Ca were randomly assigned in a 11 allocation ratio.

There was a significant increase in total Ca intake and Ca from dairy for children at weeks 8, 34 and 52 (P ≤ 0·001) in both conditions. Parental Ca intake and amount spent on dairy products did not significantly increase following the intervention.

Provision of daily Ca requirements with regular reminders could impact parents’ delivery of Ca-rich foods to their children. This finding is important for public health messaging as it suggests that parents are a potent medium through which to promote Ca intake in children.
