    In the subtropics, agricultural activities such as beekeeping are greatly influenced by environmental challenges. In the desert of Central Arabia, honeybees forage on limited prairies that are affected by adverse weather conditions. Bee colonies reduce their field activities during extremely hot-dry-windy weather. This study investigated whether nectar-rich melliferous flora enhance the field activities of two honeybee subspecies, Apis mellifera jemenitica (indigenous) and A. m. carnica (exotic), despite the presence of severe weather conditions. The foraging and pollen-gathering activities of the two subspecies were evaluated on Acacia trees (Acacia gerrardii Benth.), a common subtropical, summery endemic bee plant, in the central desert of the Arabian Peninsula. The native colonies were significantly (p less then 0.001) more active foragers than the exotic colonies (109 ± 4 and 49 ± 2 workers/colony/3 min, respectively). Similarly, the native colonies recruited significantly (p ˂ 0.01) more active pollen-gathering bees than the imported colonies (22 ± 1 and 7 ± 1 workers/colony/3 min, respectively). Furthermore, far more food was collected by the indigenous colonies than by the exotic colonies, and a higher portion of all field trips was allocated to pollen gathering by the indigenous bees than by the imported bees. The nectar-rich Acacia trees reduced the negative effects of hot-dry-windy weather. More research on honeybee colonies operating in the subtropical conditions of Central Arabia is needed, especially regarding heat tolerance mechanisms and effects on queen and drone fertility.An outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in China has influenced every aspect of life. The current study was conducted to assess anxiety and fear of getting infected among dentists while working during the current novel coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) outbreak. In addition, dentists’ knowledge about various practice modifications to combat COVID-19 has been evaluated. A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey from 10th to 17th March 2020. The well-constructed questionnaire was designed and registered at online website (Kwiksurveys) and validated. Chi-Square and Spearman correlation tests were applied to control confounders arecommended guidelines to emergency treatment only or closed down practices for an uncertain period.INTRODUCTION Mortality caused by ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has declined because of greater use of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). It is unknown if patients >75 have similar survival as peers. We aim to know it stratifying by sex and assessing how the sex may impact the survival. METHODS We retrospectively selected all patients >75 who suffered a STEMI treated with primary PCI at our institution. We compared their survival with that of the reference population (general population matched by age, sex, and geographical region). A Cox-regression analysis controlling for clinical factors was performed to know if sex was a risk factor. RESULTS Total of 450 patients were studied. Survival at 1, 3, and 5 years of follow-up for patients who survived the first 30 days was 91.22% (CI95% 87.80-93.72), 79.71% (CI95% 74.58-83.92), and 68.02% (CI95% 60.66-74.3), whereas in the reference population it was 93.11%, 79.10%, and 65.01%, respectively. Sex was not a risk factor, Hazard Ratio = 1.02 (CI95% 0.67-1.53; p = 0.92). CONCLUSIONS Life expectancy of patients suffering a STEMI is nowadays intimately linked to survival in the first 30 days. After one year, the risk of death for both men and women seems similar to that of the general population.This study introduced an experimental bioactive glass (BG) with a lower Na2O content than conventional BG 45S5 (10.5 wt% vs. 24.5 wt%), additionally containing CaF2 (12 wt%) and a network connectivity similar to that of BG 45S5. A series of experimental composites functionalized with 5-40 wt% of the novel BG was prepared and compared to a corresponding series of experimental composites functionalized with 5-40 wt% of BG 45S5. Commercial acidneutralizing materials (alkasite, giomer, and glass ionomer) were used as references. The capabilities of the materials to neutralize hydrochloric acid (pH = 2.6) and lactic acid (pH = 4.5) were evaluated by real-time pH measurements over 1 h. The degree of conversion and precipitation of calcium phosphate were also investigated. Data were analyzed using one-way and Welch ANOVA at an overall level of significance of 0.05. The acid-neutralizing potential of the experimental BG incorporated into resin composites was generally comparable to that of BG 45S5, and better than that of a giomer and glass ionomer. Fluorine was identified in the precipitate that developed on the composites functionalized with the experimental BG, suggesting a capability of forming fluorapatite. Unlike the 45S5 composition, the experimental BG did not impair the degree of conversion of resin composites. The novel BG filler is therefore an interesting candidate for future investigations of caries-preventive resin composites, and their potential clinical applicability for restorative, preventive, and orthodontic purposes.This study reports a relationship between Akt3 expression and tissue-specific regulation of the pI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway by copaiba essential oil. Akt3, a protein kinase B isoform important for the regulation of neuronal development, exhibited differential expression levels in cells of various origins. In neuronal and microglial cells, where Akt3 is present, copaiba essential oil positively regulated the pI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. In contrast, in liver cells and T lymphocytes, where Akt3 is absent, copaiba essential oil negatively regulated the pI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. The expression of Akt3 via plasmid DNA in liver cells led to positive regulatory effects by copaiba essential oil on the pI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. In contrast, inhibition of Akt3 expression in neuronal cells via small interfering RNA molecules targeting Akt3 transcripts abrogated the regulatory effects of copaiba essential oil on the pI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. Interestingly, Akt3 expression did not impact the regulatory effects of copaiba essential oil on other signaling pathways.
