    Molecular testing (MT) is utilized in neuro-oncology with increasing frequency. The aim of this study was to determine clinical practice patterns to acquire this information, interpret and utilize MT for patient care, and identify unmet needs in the practical clinical application of MT.

    We conducted a voluntary online survey of providers within the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) membership database between March and April 2019.

Previous studies documented health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and spiritual well-being (SWB) as positively correlated within a general cancer patient population, but little is known about their association in the primary brain tumor population. We sought to measure SWB in primary brain tumor patients and evaluate whether it was associated with HRQoL.

    Six-hundred and six patients treated at The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke between December 16, 2013 and February 28, 2014 with data in the PRoGREss registry are included in this retrospective analysis. Each patient completed the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being 12 (FACIT-Sp-12) and -Fatigue (FACIT-F), and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General and -Brain (FACT-G and FACT-Br).

    Mean age was 49.1 years (SD = 13.5 years), male (N = 328, 54.1%), married (N = 404, 66.7%), at least college-educated (N = 381, 62.9%), and diagnosed with a high-grade glioma (N = 412, 68.0%). Multiple regression analyses were performed on both the FACT-G and the FACT-Br using the FACIT-Sp-12 sub-scales of Meaning/Peace and Faith, FACIT-F, belief in God or a higher power, prayer, gender, tumor grade, and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) as predictors. We found that greater SWB (measured by FACIT-Sp-12) was associated with better HRQoL (measured by FACT-G and FACT-Br;

    Few studies have assessed physical functioning in glioma patients with grade II, III, and IV glioma prior to undergoing adjuvant radiation with or without chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to describe the baseline physical functioning capacity of patients with glioma prior to adjuvant therapy compared to validated cutoffs required to maintain independence.

    This study is a cross-sectional study that recruited patients with grade II, III, and IV glioma (n = 33) undergoing adjuvant radiation with or without chemotherapy. The six-minute walk, thirty-second sit-to-stand, and timed “Up & Go” assessments were used to describe baseline physical functioning. Perceived quality of life from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) quality of life questionnaire (QLQ-C30) version 3.0 was used to quantify the quality of life.

    Adjuvant stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) improves the local control of resected brain metastases (BrM). However, the dependency of long-term outcomes on SRS timing relative to surgery remains unclear.

    Retrospective analysis of patients treated with metastasectomy-plus-adjuvant SRS at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) between 2013 and 2016 was conducted. Kaplan-Meier methodology was used to describe overall survival (OS) and cumulative incidence rates were estimated by type of recurrence, accounting for death as a competing event. Recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) and competing risks regression modeling assessed prognostic variables and associated events of interest.

    Two hundred and eighty-two patients with BrM had a median OS of 1.5 years (95% CI 1.2-2.1) from adjuvant SRS with median follow-up of 49.8 months for survivors. Local surgical recurrence, other simultaneously SRS-irradiated site recurrence, and distant central nervous system (CNS) progression rates were 14.3% (95% CI 10.1-18.5), 4.9% (95% CI 2.3-7.5), and 47.5% (95% CI 41.4-53.6) at 5 years, respectively. Median time-to-adjuvant SRS (TT-SRS) was 34 days (IQR 27-39). TT-SRS was significantly associated with surgical site recurrence rate (

SRS delivered within 1 month resulted in surgical site recurrence rate of 6.1% (95% CI 1.3-10.9) at 1-year, compared to 9.2% (95% CI 4.9-13.6) if delivered between 1 and 2 months, or 27.3% (95% CI 0.0-55.5) if delivered >2 months after surgery. OS was significantly lower for patients with TT-SRS >~2 months. Postoperative length of stay, discharge to a rehabilitation facility, urgent care visits, and/or disease recurrence between surgery and adjuvant SRS associated with increased TT-SRS.
