first study to assess reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the OKS-Ar after TKA. The validity and reliability results are similar to those found for both the original English-language OKS and the OKS translated into other languages. We believe that this is also the first study to assess OKS-Ar responsiveness after TKA and to show a large effect size. We found that the OKS-Ar is a feasible, valid, reliable, and sensitive measurement tool to assess pain and function in TKA-treated individuals whose main language is Arabic.
Scapular fractures following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are devastating complications with substantial functional implications. The role of the coracoacromial ligament (CAL), which is often transected during surgical exposure for RSA, is not fully known. We hypothesized that the CAL contributes to the structural integrity of the “scapular ring” and that the transection of this ligament during RSA alters the scapular strain patterns.
RSA was performed on 8 cadaveric specimens without evidence of a prior surgical procedure in the shoulder. Strain rosettes were fixed onto the acromial body (at the location of Levy type-II fractures) and the scapular spine (Levy type III). With use of a shoulder simulator, strains were recorded at 0°, 30°, and 60° glenohumeral abductions before and after CAL transection. The deltoid and glenohumeral joints were functionally loaded (middle deltoid = 150 N, posterior deltoid = 75 N, and joint compression = 300 N). Maximum principal strains were calculated from eaized fashion. Transection of the CAL substantially alters strain patterns, resulting in increased strain at the scapular spine following RSA.

Despite widespread use of single-stage open reduction and pelvic osteotomy for treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) after walking age, this aggressive strategy remains controversial. We directly compared dislocated hips treated with closed reduction (CR) to those treated with open reduction and Salter innominate osteotomy (OR/IO) to estimate the relative hazard of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and the THA-free survival time.
In a series of patients 18 to 60 months of age, 45 patients (58 hips) underwent CR and 58 patients (78 hips) were treated with OR/IO and followed to a minimum 40 years post-reduction. Observations in the survival analysis were censored if no THA had occurred by 48 years. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to estimate the hazard of THA given treatment, age, and bilaterality. click here Complications and additional procedures were noted.
At 48 years of follow-up, 29 (50%) of the hips survived after CR compared with 54 (69%) after OR/IO. At 45 years, the survival probabfter CR than after OR/IO. Both treatments provided substantial benefit relative to the natural history of DDH, but THA is the expected outcome in middle adulthood.

Revision total joint arthroplasty (TJA) has a higher rate of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) compared with primary TJA, possibly as the result of increased allogeneic blood transfusion. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is gaining popularity in revision TJA to minimize blood loss and the need for transfusion; however, its effect on PJI reduction has yet to be investigated. The hypothesis of this study was that the administration of TXA during revision arthroplasty is protective against subsequent PJI.
A prospectively maintained institutional database was used to identify patients who underwent revision TJA for aseptic failure from 2009 to 2018 and had a minimum follow-up of 90 days. Patients who developed PJI following revision arthroplasty were identified. All patients with PJI met Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) criteria. A multivariate analysis was performed to identify variables independently associated with PJI after aseptic revision TJA.
Overall, 1,731 patients who underwent aseptic revision wermplete description of levels of evidence.

Electronic patient portal (EPP) use has been associated with a number of benefits in the internal medicine setting. Few studies have examined the disparities in and the benefits of EPP utilization among surgical patients. The purposes of this study were to examine factors associated with EPP use among patients undergoing an orthopaedic surgical procedure and to determine if EPP use is associated with improved outcomes or satisfaction after orthopaedic surgical procedures.
We queried all patients undergoing an orthopaedic surgical procedure from May 2015 to December 2018 at 2 academic medical centers in an integrated hospital system. Patient demographic characteristics, operative characteristics, satisfaction scores, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were collected. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify disparities in EPP use. Adjusted logistic and linear regressions were then used to assess the association between EPP use and the various outcome metrics while controlling for ceing used by health-care systems to improve communication between providers and patients; however, providers should be aware of and strive to eliminate disparities in EPP utilization among orthopaedic patients. Within orthopaedic surgery, EPPs are associated with a number of benefits, including lower no-show rates and increased patient satisfaction.
For almost 30 years, bone-anchored prostheses have offered an alternative solution to prosthetic sockets by attaching the artificial limb directly to the femoral residuum by means of an osseointegration implant. Osseointegration implant surgery was introduced in our center in 2009. The aim of the present study is to report on safety, prosthesis-wearing time, and health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) for patients with femoral bone-anchored prostheses during a 5-year follow-up period.
All patients who underwent implantation of a press-fit osseointegration implant between May 2009 and November 2013 were eligible for the present study. Implantation was performed in 2 stages. Adverse events included infectious complications (grade 1 to 4), aseptic loosening, breakage, stoma-redundant tissue, and stoma hypergranulation. Prosthesis-wearing time and HRQoL were measured with the Questionnaire for Persons with a Transfemoral Amputation (Q-TFA) prosthetic use score and global score, respectively.
Thirty-nine of 42 eligible patients were included.
