We previously demonstrated that MnTBAP, a synthetic metalloporphyrin with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, inhibits the turn-over of BMPR2 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Therefore, we hypothesized that MnTBAP might be used to treat PAH. Human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs), as well as pulmonary microvascular endothelial (MVECs) and smooth muscle cells (MVSMCs) from PAH patients, were treated with MnTBAP. In vivo, either saline or MnTBAP was given to PAH rats induced by Sugen 5416 and hypoxia (SuHx). On PAECs, MnTBAP was found to increase BMPR2 protein levels by blocking autophagy. Moreover, MnTBAP increased BMPR2 levels in pulmonary MVECs and MVSMCs isolated from PAH patients. In SuHx rats, MnTBAP reduced right ventricular (RV) afterload by reversing pulmonary vascular remodeling, including both intima and media layers. To the best of our knowledge, persistent peripheral pain as a key factor for the development of neuromuscular activity impairments has not been analyzed. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. A total of 90 women were included and allocated to three groups (i) 30 women with persistent peripheral pain after breast cancer treatment, (ii) 30 women without pain after breast cancer treatment, and (iii) 30 healthy women. Surface electromyography was employed to measure the onset and amplitude of the muscle activity of three shoulder movements. Statistically significant differences were found in the neuromuscular activity for all the muscles and shoulder movements among women with persistent pain versus healthy women (i.e., amplitude muscle activity variable p less then 0.001). Statistically significant differences were also observed in the neuromuscular activity for certain muscles in shoulder movements among women with persistent pain versus women without pain, as well as between women without pain versus healthy women. Therefore, following breast cancer treatment, women showed alterations in their shoulder neuromuscular activity, which were more significant if persistent pain existed. These findings may contribute to developing a selective therapeutic exercise program that optimizes the shoulder neuromuscular activity in women after breast cancer treatment.The aim of this study was to evaluate whether dietary behaviours of the Spanish adult population were changed during the COVID-19 outbreak confinement. For that purpose, an online questionnaire, based on 44 items including socio-demographic data, Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) Adherence Screener (MEDAS) as a reference of a healthy diet, processed foods intake, changes in their usual food choices and weight gain was distributed using social media and snowball sampling. A total of 7514 participants (37% aged below 35 years, 70.6% female, 77.9% university-level education or higher) from all the Spanish territory completed the questionnaire. Results outlined healthier dietary behaviours during the confinement when compared to previous habits. Overall, the MEDAS score (ranging from 0 to 14, whereby higher a scoring reflects greater adherence to the MedDiet) increased significantly from 6.53 ± 2 to 7.34 ± 1.93 during the confinement. Multivariate logistic regression models, adjusted for age, gender, region and other variables, showed a statistically significant higher likelihood of changing the adherence to the MedDiet (towards an increase in adherence) in those persons who decreased the intake of fried foods, snacks, fast foods, red meat, pastries or sweet beverages, but increased MedDiet-related foods such as olive oil, vegetables, fruits or legumes during the confinement.
