001) during the Valsalva maneuver whereas ETOP was lower and ETOD shorter (both p < 0.001) during the Toynbee maneuver. No difference regarding ETOF was observed between the Frenzel, Valsalva, and Toynbee maneuver.
The Frenzel maneuver was shown to be at least as effective as the Valsalva maneuver concerning ET opening. We believe that knowledge of the Frenzel technique might facilitate the pressure equalization during diving and recommend implementation of an appropriate equalization training in apnea and scuba diving education.

During this process, the polarity formation in the cell membrane has been considered as a key process by which the entire polarity formation in the cytosol is controlled, and it has been extensively studied in both experiments and mathematical models. Nonetheless, a mathematically rigorous analysis of the polarity formation in the asymmetric cell division has been little explored, particularly for bulk-surface models. In this article, we deal with polarity models proposed for describing the PAR polarity formation in the asymmetric cell division of a C. elegans embryo. Using a simpler but mathematically consistent model, we exhibit the long time behavior of the polarity formation of a bulk-surface cell. Moreover, we mathematically prove the existence of stable polarity solutions of the model equation in an arbitrary high-dimensional domain and analyse how the boundary position of polarity domain is determined. Our results propose that the existence and dynamics of the polarity in the asymmetric cell division can be understood universally in terms of basic mathematical structures. The effectiveness of silver nanomaterials (AgNMs), as antiviral agents, has been confirmed in humans against many different types of viruses. Nanobiocides-based AgNMs can be effectively applied to eliminate coronaviruses (CoVs), as the cause of various diseases in animals and humans, particularly the fatal human respiratory infections. Mostly, these NMs act effectively against CoVs, thanks to the NMs’ fundamental anti-viral structures like reactive oxygen species (ROS), and photo-dynamic and photo-thermal abilities. Particularly, the antiviral activity of AgNMs is clarified under three inhibitory mechanisms including viral entry limitation, attachment inhibition, and viral replication limitation. It is believed that nanobiocide with other possible materials such as TiO2, silica and, carbon NMs exclusively nano-graphene materials can emerge as a more effective disinfectant for long-term stability with low toxicity than common disinfectants. Nanobiocides also can be applied for the prevention and treatment of viral infections specifically against COVID-19.
The genetic basis of 27 seedling traits under normal and salt treatments was fully analyzed in a RIL wheat population, and seven QTL intervals were validated in two other genetic populations. Soil salinity seriously constrains wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production globally by influencing its growth and development. To explore the genetic basis of salt tolerance in wheat, a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from a cross between high-yield wheat cultivar Zhongmai 175 (ZM175) and salt-tolerant cultivar Xiaoyan 60 (XY60) was used to map QTL for seedling traits under normal and salt treatments based on a high-density genetic linkage map. A total of 158 stable additive QTL for 27 morphological and physiological traits were identified and distributed on all wheat chromosomes except 3A and 4D. They explained 2.35-46.43% of the phenotypic variation with a LOD score range of 2.61-40.38. The alleles from XY60 increased corresponding traits for 100 QTL, while the alleles from ZM175 had positive effectsrvals were validated in two other genetic populations. Besides additive QTL, 94 pairs of loci were detected with significant epistatic effect and 20 QTL were found to interact with treatment. This study provides a full elucidation of the genetic basis of seedling traits (especially root system-related traits) associated with salt tolerance in wheat, and the developed kompetitive allele-specific PCR markers closely linked to stable QTL would supply strong supports to MAS in salt-tolerant wheat breeding.
Dilated common bile duct (CBD) (8-15mm) with normal liver function tests is seen not infrequently, while management of such patients is ambiguous. We propose a treatment algorithm for this cohort of patients after observing them over a period of 8years.
Seventy-eight such patients were managed from 2009 to 2017 and categorized as Group A-dilated CBD with post-cholecystectomy status (n = 15); B-dilated CBD with cholelithiasis (n = 34); C-dilated CBD without cholelithiasis (n = 16); D-dilated CBD with no cause identified and underwent CBD excision (n = 13). Causes for CBD dilatation were evaluated. The outcome of patients in Group B + C without any cause (n = 33) was compared with Group D.
Median age, CBD diameter, bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase were 51years (13-79), 10mm (8-20), 0.6mg/dl (0.2-2.5) and 126IU (60-214), respectively. Group-A patients who did not manifest any cause of CBD dilatation were managed conservatively. The aetiology was identified in 17/50 patients in Group B & C . In Group-C, 7 patients with no obvious cause underwent endoscopic sphincterotomy, pancreatoduodenectomy (n = 1), and the rest were managed conservatively (n = 8). There was no significant difference in the complication between Group B + C (without any cause) and Group D (3/33 vs. 1/13; p = 0.58) at a median follow-up of 72months (30-90).
Dilated CBD with normal LFT’s without apparent cause is mostly benign and of no consequence. Excision of the CBD is not required for most of these patients.
