Sex phenotype ranges from monoecy in ethylene-sensitive WT plants to androecy in the strongest ethylene-insensitive ones, via andromonoecy in the partially ethylene-insensitive plants. The induction of female flowering transition was found to be associated with an upregulation of CpACS11, CpACO2 and CpACS27, three ethylene biosynthesis genes required for female flower development. A model is proposed herewith, integrating both ethylene biosynthesis and receptor genes into the genetic network which regulates sex determination in C. pepo. The emerging COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed healthcare resources worldwide, and for transfusion services this could potentially result in rapid imbalance between supply and demand due to a severe shortage of blood donors. This may result in insufficient blood components to meet every patient’s needs resulting in difficult decisions about which patients with major bleeding do and do not receive active transfusion support. This document, which was prepared on behalf of the National Blood Transfusion Committee in England, provides a framework and triage tool to guide the allocation of blood for patients with massive haemorrhage during severe blood shortage. Its goal is to provide blood transfusions in an ethical, fair, and transparent way to ensure that the greatest number of life years are saved. It is based on an evidence- and ethics-based Canadian framework, and would become operational where demand for blood greatly exceeds supply, and where all measures to manage supply and demand have been exhausted. The guidance complements existing national shortage plans for red cells and platelets. Background In 2014, we experienced the first isolation of Lactococcus garvieae from a platelet concentrate (PC). Thereafter, L. garvieae contamination of PCs occurred in two more cases in Japan. It is rare that bacterial contamination with uncommon strains like this species occurs frequently within a short period. Therefore, we performed a detailed analysis of the characteristics of these strains. Study design and methods Three bacterial strains were identified by biochemical testing and molecular analysis. Genomic diversity was characterized by multilocus sequence typing (MLST). To observe growth kinetics in blood components, PCs were inoculated with the three different strains. Results All three strains were identified as L. garvieae by molecular analysis. Each strain belonged to a different phylogenetic group according to MLST analysis. In the spiking trial, the three strains demonstrated differences in their final concentrations and changes in appearance of PCs. Conclusion In this study, all three L. garvieae strains were correctly identified by molecular analysis. Since the three strains were collected in different regions of Japan and belonged to different phylogenetic groups according to MLST analysis, it is suggested that L. garvieae have a wide distribution with diversity in Japan. In PCs, the three L. garvieae strains showed clear differences in growth kinetics and changes in appearance of PCs. These differences may have been the primary determinant of whether PC contamination was detected before transfusion. Moreover, L. garvieae represents an emerging foodborne bacterium that can cause transfusion-transmitted bacteremia. Understanding our cases may help prevent bacterial contamination of blood products.Paintings on canvas are complex structures created by superimposing layers of different composition. Investigations on the structure of these artworks can provide essential information on their state of conservation, pictorial technique, possible over-paintings, and in planning a proper conservation plan. Standard methods of investigation consist in sampling a limited number of fragments for stratigraphic analyses. Despite the recognized validity of these methods, they are affected by evident limitations. NMR profiling, often named NMR stratigraphy, is an NMR relaxometry technique applied by single-sided portable devices developed to overcome the disadvantages of micro-invasive stratigraphic analyses. The potential of this approach on artworks, including wall paintings and a few examples of painted canvas, is described in the literature. In this study, NMR profiles of painting on canvas were examined by analyzing transverse relaxation time data by T2 quasi-continuous distributions, and the results compared with standard stratigraphic cross-sections analysis. Combining signal intensity and T2 quasi-continuous distributions, the identification of textile, preparatory and paint layers was enhanced. The diction “NMR stratigraphy” for these inhomogeneous layered artworks is also discussed. Indeed, unlike the stratigraphic cross-sections, NMR profiles provide information on a volume (flat slice), rather than on a surface, and the collected signal can derive from non-uniform and partially overlapping layers. This study paves the way for extensive investigations on relaxation time quasi-continuous distributions in various binder/pigment mixtures in order to improve the reliability of NMR profile as an innovative, non-invasive and non-destructive method for analyzing paintings on canvas.Context Professors often spend a great deal of time counseling poorly performing students, which limits the time dedicated to high achievers. This may be problematic, as psychiatrists have determined that gifted students may be susceptible to feelings of inadequacy despite positive external evidence. Dr. Pauline Clance coined the term “Impostor Phenomenon” (IP) to describe these traits. Objective Dental students, while academically successful, may be prone to IP and lack appropriate coping strategies. The goal of this project was to create and publish an online module to educate dental students about IP and provide 6 coping mechanisms. Design After viewing the video at the beginning of the semester, students completed the Clance IP Scale to determine the prevalence of IP thoughts. This was repeated at the end of the semester to determine the impact of the online training module. Cordycepin manufacturer Results There was a decrease in postsemester scores from 63.44 (±14.92) to 59.12 (±14.56), n = 103, 86% response rate, dependent samples within subjects t-test, P less then 0.
