89 to 1). Cronbach’s alpha coefficient in all diary parameters was greater than 0.80 indicating high internal consistency. The test-retest reliability by intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) for each diary parameters showed a high score indicating good agreement between the first and second test diaries.

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) provides patients with an alternative treatment to TKA in isolated medial compartment osteoarthritis providing better functional outcomes and faster recovery in the short term. Our aim was to quantify revision rates, predictors of revision, mortality rate and functionality of the Oxford Phase 3 UKA in a non-designer institution.

This was a retrospective review of prospectively collected regional registry data. All Oxford Phase 3 UKAs performed for medial tibio-femoral osteoarthritis of the knee joint were included from a single academic institution between the period of January 1st 2006 and December 30th 2009. Kaplan-Meier survivorship curves adjusting for loss to follow-up and deceased patients were generated. Primary outcome variables included all-cause and aseptic revision. Secondary outcome variables included functional outcome scores. Patients were reviewed at 6months, 2years, 5years, 10years and 15years.

A total of 64 cemented Oxford phase 3 UKAs were performed between January 2006 and November 2009. Fifteen-year follow-up data were available for 51 patients, of these 12 required revision. Survival rates, adjusting for patients that were either lost to follow-up or deceased, were 87.5% at 5years, 81.4% at 10years and 76.4% at 15years. The overall aseptic revision rate at the time of review was 18.75% (n = 12). The only significant predictor of postoperativeWOMAC score at 15years was the preoperative WOMAC score (p = 0.03).

The Oxford Phase 3 UKA for medial tibio-femoral arthritis has promising outcomes at 15-year follow-up with a survival rate of 76.4% in a non-designer centre.

Tissue-sparing, minimally invasive hip arthroplasty via the direct anterior approach (DAA) using apartially neck-preserving, calcar-guided short stem.

Primary and secondary osteoarthritis of the hip due to developmental dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, femoral head necrosis or trauma sequelae.

Severe osteoporosis, active infection, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) > III, large metaphyseal bone defects, severe metaphyseal deformities, Dorr typeC femur.

Supine position on astandard operating table without extension device. Classic DAA skin incision or bikini incision distal to the inguinal fold. Blunt dissection entering the Hueter interval. Capsulotomy with capsule preservation or partial capsulectomy. Intraoperatively, it is crucial to adhere to the preoperatively planned angle and height of the femoral neck osteotomy. During femoral head removal and acetabular preparation, care must be taken to avoid iatrogenic damage to the remaining neck. After cup positioning, femoral access Score was48 (range 11-88) preoperatively and98 (range 80-100) postoperatively.

The minimally invasive implantation of apartially neck-preserving stem via DAA provides asafe technique with good to excellent clinical results in the mid-term.

The minimally invasive implantation of a partially neck-preserving stem via DAA provides a safe technique with good to excellent clinical results in the mid-term.A patient with rheumatoid arthritis and immunosuppression developed symptoms of wasting, neuropathy and lung cavitations eventually leading to central nervous system symptoms and fatal multi-organ failure. Disseminated infection with Histoplasma capsulatum proved to be the underlying cause. The primary infection had apparently been acquired 4 years earlier on a holiday to the Caribbean. Rare infectious diseases should be considered in patients under immunosuppression and travel activities to specific endemic areas.Pneumococci are the most frequent bacterial agent of community-acquired pneumonia and are one of the most common vaccine-preventable causes of death worldwide. There is a polysaccharide vaccine that contains the capsular polysaccharides of 23 of the more than 90 known serotypes. PPV23 confers good protection against invasive pneumococcal infections but does not stimulate T cells and thus leaves no immunologic memory. It has limited efficacy in immunocompromised individuals. Initially for young children and later for adults, a 13 valent conjugate vaccine was licensed that covers fewer serotypes but leaves immunologic memory and mediates mucosal immunity, i.e. by eradicating healthy pneumococcal carriers, and thus has herd-protective effects. The German Standing Commission on Vaccination Practices (STIKO) currently recommends PPV23 for indication vaccination in various comorbidities and as standard vaccination for all above 60 years with repeat vaccination after 6 years at the earliest. Patients with immunosuppression, chronic renal failure or chronic liver failure should receive a sequential vaccination (first PCV13 followed by PPV23 after 6-12 months) due to the limited efficacy of PPV23 and their increased risk for infection. The annual Poverty and Health congress, which has been organized by Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg e. V. since 1995, has become one of the biggest public health events in Germany. learn more It offers an exchange platform for science, practice, and politics. This year’s congress topic was “From Crisis to Health in All Policies,” which aimed to address the SARS-CoV‑2 pandemic’s impact on society in general and public health in particular. Overall, 80 panels were organized with close to 500 experts discussing a wide range of subjects and questions, for example, the connection between poverty and COVID-19, the current challenges in the care sector, the situation of homeless people, and the impact of the pandemic on (young) families or students as well as global questions on vaccination strategy and key issues for a public health strategy for Germany.
